It’s the end of January, and we’ve long since past the day by which most folks have given up on their New Year’s Resolutions. Last week I joined in Fabrik’s Digital Detox Day hosting a workshop focused on reaffirming your goals for the year by grounding them in your core values and inspiring yourself to action by writing letters to your future self with words of praise and encouragement when you most need to hear them.
Grounding myself in a few core values has been tremendously helpful in clarifying the why behind the goals I’m working to achieve. This foundation is more meaningful than a vague sense of what I should do, and it helps me prioritize the tasks that are important for maintaining healthy relationships and a sense of self when things get busy. I like to think of this exercise of identifying and visualizing my goals within the framework of core values as planning out the garden of the future I’m aiming to grow.
If you’re celebrating the Lunar New Year this weekend (or if you need a little extra motivation to continue working toward your goals for the year), consider blocking off an hour in a quiet space to work through the exercises below to:
Identify Your Core Values,
Visualize Your Future Self, and
Write a Letter to Your Future Self.
